Marian Year Statue

The Grotto

Erected by the parishioners of Woodford in the Marion year of 1954.

The statue stands on the old Mass rock, a flat stone slab on which priests said Mass for the people in Penal times, the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, when the Catholic religion was outlawed in Ireland.

The original site of the Mass Rock is a few miles outside Woodford near Lough Atorick.
